President Joseph Biden was the second Catholic president, and one of the most consequential of the last fifty years. Among the accomplishments of his administration:
- Rescuing the US economy from Covid: first US president to oversee monthly job gains for the entirety of his presidency, with 16.6 million jobs added, 2-1/2 years with the jobless rate <4% (longest streak since the ‘60s), and real income growth exceeding inflation for nearly 2 years
- World peace: Finally ended the 20-year war in Afghanistan
- Creation care: Passed the landmark Inflation Reduction Act, which provided billions for investment in new programs to boost renewable energy technologies that have now surpassed coal and nuclear energy as the #2 source for electricity generation
- Dignity of work: Expanded overtime guarantees for 3.6 million workers
- Violence prevention: Established the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention
- Brokering peace between Rwanda and Congo, in a conflict fueled by the Chinese appetite for cobalt (a component in large batteries)
- Health: Strengthening the Affordable Care Act by expanding coverage to 50 million Americans
- Standing against territorial conquest: By standing with the people of Ukraine, negotiating the release of Israeli political prisoners and Hamas hostages, and reiterating the US commitment to a Palestinian homeland
